How to Consume Cannabis: 5 Options

Cannabis is such a versatile plant in so many ways, in how it’s grown, processed, presented and consumed. From the most traditional smoking devices like pipes or papers, to the technological wonders of the dry flower vaporizer, to the (intimidating to a newbie) ritual of a dab rig setup. With so many different methods, how do you choose what’s best for you? Here’s a rundown on what each method involves so you can decide for yourself.

Smoking

The easiest and most obvious is smoking cannabis from a pipe, but even then your options are only limited by your imagination. You can use glass or wood or anodized aluminum, you can even carve a pathway through an apple and use that as a bowl (plus a snack after). Joints are quick and effortless, and they’re a ready-to-go option if you buy them pre-rolled. Smoking can leave a lingering smell though, so it may not be the best choice for those who want to be discrete.

Vaping

If you want all the effects of smoking but don’t want to inhale as much ash and plant matter, you can use a vaporizer. They are essentially just heaters that get up to the exact vaporization point of the resinous oils in the plant and can release all your cannabinoids and terpenes without burning up the unnecessary carbon in the plant matter – basically they heat the weed enough to get the good stuff without burning the bud into ash. They do have a bit of an upfront cost and most rely on batteries or a torch lighter, but the flavor and efficiency can’t be beat.

Edibles

If you have lots of dry flower from your croptober haul, you can decarb it and bake it into an oil or butter that can be used whenever you want to add it into your meals. Or you can make a smaller scale option like firecrackers! Remember, cannabis needs to decarb (get heated enough) to activate the THC – adding raw flower to your meal won’t do the trick.

Extracts

Whether buying one of our concentrate options or making your own at home with some wax paper and a hair straightener, smoking extracts requires some special tools like a dab rig, a nectar collector, cartridge or a vaporizer made specifically for concentrates.

Topicals

A new addition to the legal recreational world, topicals are THC and/or CBD infused lotions, creams and oils that can be applied to the hair, skin and nails. They soak through your dermal layer to interact with your cb2 receptors. You can even make your own!
